Police will today interview "a person of interest" as they investigate a homicide in Hamilton.

Sedrick Tilley Tiatia, 38, died yesterday at a house in at Winstone Ave, Chartwell, and a 19-year-old man handed himself into Counties Manukau police about 7am today, Detective Senior Sergeant Nigel Keall, of the Waikato CIB said.

"Teams of investigators worked through the night and searched a number of properties in Auckland in connection with our attempts to locate this man, and steps are underway to interview him today," Keall said.

A scene examination at the house where Tiatia died would recommence this morning.

Keall said police hoped to progress the examination and canvas the area to the point where Tiatia's body can be removed to allow for an autopsy to be conducted in Auckland.
