Police are hunting a man who robbed a bank on Auckland's North Shore this morning.

The man entered the ASB branch in Mairangi Bay just before 11.30am where he pointed a black pistol at a teller and demanded money.

He was carrying a black backpack and left the bank with an undisclosed amount of money.

Police said the man then turned left onto Beach Rd. There have been no confirmed sightings of him since.

The man was described as Caucasian with dark hair that was thinning on the front. He was aged in his mid to late 40s and of medium build.

He was wearing a black T-shirt with writing and a motif on the front and back, and jeans.

Police are urging anyone with information to contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
