A 53-year-old Nelson man was stabbed at least 10 times at his home in the suburb of Tahunanui last night.

"About 10pm the victim was in bed when a man arrived at the address and attacked him, stabbing him at least 10 times in the back, arms and legs," police said.

"The victim managed to get away and ran to a neighbour's house. Police were called and found the offender still at the address.

"After a struggle he was arrested and taken into custody."

The injured man was in a stable condition in hospital. Inquiries into the incident were continuing.
