Two men are on the run from police after a South Auckland shooting this morning.

A 49-year-old man received a gunshot wound to the thigh at 2am, but he is expected to make a full recovery.

Police believe two men entered a property in Rountree Pl, Conifer Gr, and shot the victim before fleeing in a blue ute.

Emergency services were called to the house after a gunshot was heard.

The victim was taken to hospital in a serious condition. He is now stable and awaiting surgery.

Police are interviewing the victim and witnesses in a bid to establish what happened at the address.

Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Pizzini, of Counties Manukau police, said the investigation was still in its early stages.

"It is too soon to determine the motive for the shooting and police will be investigating all angles," he said.

"However, we are interested in hearing from anyone who may have seen a blue twin-cab ute with a canopy in the Conifer Gr area any time before or after 2am."
