Two Khandallah schools were hit by arsonists who set fire to rubbish bins early this morning.

Police said a building at Cashmere Avenue School was damaged and it was only the quick response by a neighbour that saved the whole school from being burnt down.

A rubbish bin was also set alight at Saint Benedicts School, nearby in Nicholson Rd.

Police appealed for public assistance in their hunt for the culprit(s).

Anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area on Saturday night or early Sunday morning is urged to call the District Crime Squad on (04) 381-2077.
