A scene examination is being carried out at a Glen Innes address after a violent attack left one person dead.

Police have confirmed today's murder in Auckland involved two pensioners.

A 70-year-old man has been charged with murder of a man following a violent attack in the Auckland suburb Glen Innes.

The man will appear in the Auckland District Court on Monday.

Police this afternoon confirmed the victim was a 77-year-old local man.

They have not released his name as next of kin have yet to be notified.

Detective Senior Sergeant Aaron Pascoe would not comment on what had happened. He would say only that something violent had taken place at the address on Merton Road.

"However we are not looking for anyone else in relation to this incident."

A forensic examination of the scene will continue tomorrow.
