Armed police cordoned off Christchurch streets on reports of a firearm shot today.

An area in Opawa was cordoned off  and the Christchurch Police Armed Offender Squad were called to "clear an address", police said.

The call-out followed a report of a possible gunshot heard by a member of the public around 4.15pm this afternoon.

Police said: "The address was cleared without incident.  No firearm was located. Persons from the address are assisting police with their enquiries."
