Trouble is brewing at Marlborough Girls' College after senior students did a "grundy run" through the grounds of Marlborough Boys' College on Friday.
About 100 girls took part in the run, dressed in underwear and paint.
Principal Karen Stewart said the school did not condone the event and was disappointed in the year 13 girls who took part.
The girls' run came after about 100 Marlborough Boys' College did a grundy run through the Girls' College last Wednesday.
Girls' College year 13 student Samara McConnell said the girls' run was "great fun" and should become a tradition.
As far as she knew, this was the first time girls had done their own grundy run, in response to the traditional boys' event.
This morning, about 40 girls were called to a meeting by their principal.
A senior assembly was then called and a prefects' meeting was to be held at lunchtime.
"They knew we had enjoyed ourselves, but hoped we could see things from their point of view," Miss McConnell said this morning.
So far, nobody had been punished for the run, but there was a clear message the girls involved had damaged the school's reputation, Miss McConnell said.
She was told by her principal there had been a risk of girls being injured travelling by car to and from their meeting point in central Blenheim and when they were pelted with objects, including fruit, by the boys.
"We were told that when the boys did it it was a hoot but it wasn't the same for young ladies," said Miss McConnell. "I think that's a bit sexist."
She was disappointed there had not been an opportunity for the girls involved to share their side of events.
The grundy run had been a chance to cut loose before exams and "have some fun for five minutes", Miss McConnell said. "Everyone likes breaking rules occasionally."
The Boys' College grundy run has a history of controversy, associated with dangerous antics.
Marlborough Boys' College acting principal Dave Turnbull was unavailable for comment.

What is the world coming to; soon they will give women the vote...!! When they outlawed common sense, everything else appears to be on the extinct list as well. Political correctness will diminish quality of life as we know it and should itself be banned.
Good on ya girls. Ya teachers just need to chill out and realise it's just a bit of fun. They were complaining about it when i was at Marl Boys and they'll still be complaining about it in years to come. The stupid thing is they probly di the exact same thing when they were at college.

Way to go girls! You had and have every right - looks like you had a blast, and your principle should be proud, not negative.
To all the 'males' wanting pictures etc - I only hope you are all young, these are teenage girls, if any of you are at work older men - ewwwwwwwwwww!
