A Tauranga teacher has managed to get "teachers a break" after campaigning for discounted holidays for teachers from Air New Zealand.

Tauranga Intermediate School technology teacher Ian Henderson went straight to Air New Zealand management with his complaint that discounted flight packages were never available in the school holidays.

"All teachers look to get a break in one of the two winter holidays, but it's pointless really when you have to pay full price," he told the Bay of Plenty Times.

Mr Henderson emailed Air New Zealand chief executive officer Rob Fyfe and started a Facebook page for a  campaign.

Air New Zealand has now agreed to sign off on deals for the October holidays for all New Zealand teachers and support staff.

Since his success in getting teachers access to discounted packages, Mr Henderson said he had been "messaged to death" from teachers around the country thanking him.

"This shows the power of the collective voice," he said.
