Reinstated Christchurch Girls' High School principal Prue Taylor will face mediation with the school board today instead of returning to work as expected.

Taylor, who was sacked on November 2, was supposed to resume her post the day after the school term ended yesterday.

However, as part of her reinstatement, the Employment Relations Authority ruled that Taylor must go through a mediation process before she returned to work.

Taylor said she "has no idea" what will be involved but hoped it would straighten out how she would "work together in the future" with the board of trustees.

"I'm anxious to get a resolution around some of the issues that have come up," she said.

"But my main focus is on getting back and getting up to speed with things that have been going on in my absence, and getting ready for next year."

The board was given the option by the authority to decide whether Taylor should stay away until the school term ended yesterday. However, her lawyer, Richard Harrison, said the date of her return had not been made clear.

"There has been very limited contact between the board and ourselves, but we're hoping to be in a better position tomorrow," he said.
