St Margaret's College principal Gillian Simpson to retire
St Margaret's College principal Gillian Simpson has announced her retirement after a decade in the job.
The head of the Christchurch private girls' school will finish at the end of term one in 2018.
Simpson said her time at the school were some of the "most challenging and rewarding of my life".
She would leave confident the school "is in great heart".
"This is a personal decision and, while tinged with sadness at leaving the school that I love, it is the right one for myself, my family and for the school".
Simpson indicated she would spend more time with her family, but hoped to continue educating young people in some way.
Board chairman Albert Brantley said the school community would be sad to see Simpson leave.
The school had gone from strength to strength in its academic, sporting and arts performance. The roll was strong and growing, he said.
"We respect Gillian's decision and will now commence the search for an experienced leader to fill the considerable gap that she leaves."
