Auckland Hospital is to under go several changes after a n investigation into the death of a mother, who died within hours of giving birth.
Renee Bayliss, 33, died at the hospital in January when staff were unable to stem excessive bleeding in the delivery of her daughter Allix, who survived, the Herald on Sunday reported.
An internal investigation by Auckland's District Health Board (ADHB) was launched after Ms Bayliss' death, and several procedural changes have followed including a new process for obtaining emergency blood and checking all pregnant women for risk of postpartum haemorrhage.
A complaint has been laid with the Health and Disability Commission and a second independent review has been ordered by the ADHB.
ADHB chief medical officer David Sage said Ms Bayliss' death was a tragedy but he was confident it was an isolated case.
"Thousands of women are successfully treated each year at the ADHB following childbirth."
Acting Health and Disability Commissioner Rae Lamb said a decision was yet to be made as to whether the complaint would be investigated further.
