Helen Clark did the chicken dance, Pete Hodgson and Trevor Mallard created a sensation by crumping and now Green co-leader Russel Norman has taken the plunge with the "kangaroo dance", complete with coloured ribbons.

Norman, who has two young children of his own, gamely joined in the fun yesterday during a visit to an early childhood centre at Auckland University.

He also juggled three large pink balls and even agreed to sample a "sand pie" after one of the kids insisted.
