"Key-isms" are rapidly gaining in notoriety around Parliament but it seems the man himself was on the money with his latest effort.

Prime Minister John Key accused Labour hardman Trevor Mallard yesterday of blowing a "fufu valve" a reference to Mr Mallard's explosion over being ejected from Parliament's debating chamber this week.

Mr Mallard threatened on his blog to move a vote of no confidence in Speaker Lockwood Smith after being tossed out for yelling "Your nose is growing" while Mr Key was speaking.

He did not follow through on the threat when Parliament sat yesterday.

Mr Key suggested Mr Mallard "get on top of his anger issues. He blew a fufu valve".

The remark comes hard on the heels of other Key-isms - textses, for the plural of texts; allegators, for people who make allegations; and lewid, which appears to be a cross between lewd and lurid.

But fufu valve is a legitimate term. It is used by athletes who blow out in the final part of a race. It is also the name of a Chinese company that makes, among other things, ball valves for sanitary pipes.
