Embattled Maori MP Hone Harawira is taking legal advice about his future with the party from Auckland QC Peter Williams.

Mr Williams confirmed yesterday he was advising Mr Harawira and had written to the party about Mr Harawira's position.

It followed the Te Tai Tokerau MP's unauthorised visit to Paris while on a parliamentary trip to Europe.

He then sent an abusive email to former Waitangi Tribunal director Buddy Mikaere who criticised his Paris visit.

Mr Harawira later apologised for his choice of words.

The party suggested he considered leaving resigning to stand as an independent MP which Mr Harawira has described as "silly."
