Former National MP Richard Worth will not be charged in connection with a sexual complaint laid against him.

Police said today that there was no basis for charges to be laid.

Inquiry head Detective Inspector Paul Basham said police had completed a thorough investigation, which included peer review by a senior officer and assessment by police legal advisors.

Dr Worth resigned his ministerial portfolios in June citing personal reasons, with Prime Minister John Key confirming the MP was the subject of a police investigation, later revealed as regarding a complaint of a sexual nature.

He had earlier denied the accusations, attacking the credibility of his accuser, a Korean businesswoman.
