Printing error leaves candidates out in the cold
Local Body Elections
A printing error has seen a number of Auckland mayoral, council and local board candidates left out of a booklet sent to the public with their voting papers.
It is unclear just how many of the faulty books were sent out - the council is saying there have only been 22 reported - but the number is likely to be higher.
A flick through a faulty booklet from the Whau ward shows seven of the 17 mayoral candidates have been left out- Phil O'Connor, John Palino, Reuben Shadbolt, Uesifili Unasa, Annalucia Vermunt, David Willmott and Wayne Young.
Whau Local Board candidates have also been left out and other candidates are understood to have been affected.
Auckland Council electoral officer Bruce Thomas said the booklets were printed in a run of one million by NZ Post Group and as of this morning only 22 faulty booklets had been reported.
"We have reviewed our stock and not found any other faulty ones."
Thomas said he was "disappointed that some candidate booklets have pages missing".
Affected residents had been sent new booklets and directed to www.voteauckland.co.nz - a website with full candidate information.
Thomas said the council was working with NZ Post Group to identify how the printing errors occurred.
