Horowhenua to Wellington: Mostly cloudy, with patchy drizzle turning to rain this evening. Severe northerly gales in Wellington.

Nelson, Marlborough and Canterbury: Scattered rain spreading north today, then clearing tonight. Severe northwest gales in exposed places, gradually easing from the south.

Buller to Fiordland: Rain spreading north with heavy, thundery falls, easing to showers from the south during the day.

Otago and Southland: A period of rain this morning followed by scattered showers, clearing tonight. Severe northwest gales easing this morning.

Saturday: North Island, rain, with some heavy falls about the central North Island and possible thunderstorms in Bay of Plenty, clearing from the southwest. South Island, rain at times about the west coast with some heavy falls, occasional showers in the south, and mainly fine elsewhere.

Sunday: North Island, a few showers in Northland, Bay of Plenty and Gisborne, and mainly fine elsewhere. South Island, fine or becoming fine, but occasional showers in Fiordland.

Monday: Becoming cloudy from Taranaki to Bay of Plenty northwards, with a few showers developing. Mainly fine elsewhere.

Chatham Islands: Rain on Saturday, possibly heavy, and strong northerlies changing lighter westerly. Mainly fine with light winds on Sunday and Monday.
