Gisborne and Hawkes Bay: Mostly fine.

Wairarapa and Wellington: Showers north of Wellington city about the ranges, clearing this morning. Chance of a shower again in the afternoon or evening.

The remainder of the North Island: Showers, some heavy, easing during the morning.

Nelson and Marlborough: Showers, some heavy in the north and west, clearing this morning then mainly fine. However, chance of a shower on the Kaikoura Coast in the afternoon.

Canterbury: Cloudy at times. A few spots of rain this morning.

Otago and Southland: Patchy morning rain then mainly fine, apart from a few showers about the south coast. Brief rain returning everywhere in the evening.

Buller, Westland and Fiordland: Cloudy periods and showers.

Chatham Islands: A few showers.
Extended Short Forecast for all New Zealand
Tuesday: North Island, showers spreading up the east coast,becoming fine elsewhere apart from isolated showers in the southwest. South Island, becoming fine in most places, but remaining rather cloudy with patchy rain in Marlborough and Canterbury.

Wednesday: North Island, fine or becoming fine, but cloud increasing from Waikato to Kapiti from afternoon. South Island, rain developing south of the Glaciers and patchy drizzle further north, scattered rain developing in Otago and Southland, cloudy periods elsewhere, mainly in the east.

Thursday: North Island, mostly fine in the north and east, mostly cloudy elsewhere, with occasional showers from Waikato to Kapiti. South Island, rain in the west with heavy falls, scattered rain further east, but dry in Nelson and Marlborough.

Chatham Islands: Cloudy periods increasing on Thursday, and occasional showers turning to rain. Cool southerlies dying away on Wednesday, northerlies developing on Thursday.
