Northland to Horowhenua, including Coromandel and the central high country: Cloudy periods and few showers, turning to more general rain south of Hamilton this afternoon with some heavy falls possible.

Bay of Plenty, Gisborne and Hawkes Bay: Mainly fine, but one or two showers about Bay of Plenty.

Kapiti, Wellington, Wairarapa, Marlborough and Nelson: Some morning showers, especially about Kapiti, then fine.

Canterbury and North Otago: Fine, apart from a few morning and evening showers about Banks Peninsula, falling as snow above 500 metres.

Central Otago, Dunedin and Clutha: Fine spells with occasional sleet or snow showers.

Buller, Westland, Fiordland and Southland: Showers, falling as snow about Fiordland, Southland and about Alpine passes further north. Some showers heavy and thundery with hail.

Chatham Islands: Fine spells with occasional showers.

Wednesday: North Island, showers, clearing about the central high country. Snow lowering to 400 metres in south and east. South Island, Showers in south and east with snow level gradually lifting, fine elsewhere.

Thursday: North Island, fine spells but showers south of Taranaki to East Cape and north of Auckland. Snow above 300 metres in east. South Island, Showers in the south and east with snow above 400 metres, fine elsewhere.

Friday: fine spells but showers south of Taranaki to East Cape and north of Auckland. Snow above 400 metres in the east. South Island, showers in the south and east with snow above 400 metres at first, fine elsewhere.

Chatham Islands: Showers with westerlies, strong at times unitl Friday.
