Northland, Auckland and Coromandel Peninsula: Cloudy periods and a few showers.

Waikato to Taranaki, including Bay of Plenty and the central high country: Mostly cloudy. Areas of drizzle, turning to rain about Taranaki and the central high country at times tomorrow.

Whanganui, Manawatu, Gisborne, Hawkes Bay and Wairarapa: Mainly fine with variable high cloud.

Horowhenua, Kapiti and Wellington: A few showers, turning to rain at times tomorrow. Northwest gales about Wellington.

Nelson and Marlborough: Occasional rain developing overnight. Heavy falls about the Nelson ranges tomorrow.

Buller, Westland and Fiordland: Rain, with heavy falls and a few thunderstorms, especially in Westland and Buller tomorrow.

Canterbury, Otago and Southland: Rain about the Alps, but mainly fine elsewhere with high cloud.

Chatham Islands: Mostly cloudy. Rain tomorrow night.

Tuesday: North Island, rain for most places, turning to showers from Waikato to Wellington, and clearing Wairarapa. Gale northwesterlies in exposed places, possibly severe gale in Wellington. South Island, periods of rain in the west. Rain in the north clearing. High cloud elsewhere, with few spots of rain in the south.

Wednesday: North Island, becoming fine from Taranaki to Wairarapa southwards. Rain or showers elsewhere. South Island, rain spreading north to the Glaciers in the west, few showers further north. Mainly fine elsewhere.

Thursday: North Island, rain with heavy falls in the northeast,clearing. Showers elsewhere, but fine in Wairarapa. Northwesterlies rising to gale about Cook Strait. South Island, rain with heavy falls spreading northwards in the west. High cloud in the east, with scattered rain south of Christchurch.

Chatham Islands: Rain at times Tuesday and Wednesday. Strong northerlies dying out Wednesday. Rain with heavy falls on Thursday, northerlies rising to gale, changing lighter westerly late.
