Auckland, Bay of Plenty, central high country, also Whanganui and Manawatu: Cloudy periods.

Gisborne to Wairarapa: Fine with high cloud.

Taranaki, Horowhenua, Kapiti Coast and Wellington: Mostly cloudy, with drizzle mainly about the Mountain and Tararua ranges.

Nelson: Mainly fine, rain developing in the west tomorrow.

Marlborough and Canterbury: Mainly fine, low cloud lingering about the the coast until tomorrow morning.

Buller and Westland: Cloudy periods today. Rain spreading north tomorrow, with some heavy falls in the south from evening.

Otago and Southland: High cloud thickening today. Mostly cloudy tomorrow, with brief light rain around dawn.

Fiordland: Patchy drizzle turning to rain tonight, with some heavy falls tomorrow evening.

Chatham Islands: Cloudy periods.

Wednesday: North Island, A few showers from Bay of Plenty and Waikato southwards, but fine in the east. Fine further north. Northwest gales in the south. South Island, heavy rain in the west, a few spots of rain further east for Otago and Southland. Northwest gales in exposed places east of the Divide for a time, likely severe in places, especially the Canterbury High Country.

Thursday: North Island, rain spreading to most places, some heavy falls for western and central areas. South Island, occasional rain in the west, some heavy falls. Showers in the south. Mainly fine elsewhere.

Friday: North Island, rain north of Taranaki clearing, then a few showers in the west, becoming fine in the east. Northwesterlies strengthening in the south, possibly gale in exposed places. South Island, rain in the west, heavy at times. Scattered showers elsewhere.

Chatham Islands: Cloudy periods. Rain from late Thursday. Strong northwesterlies.
