In the north and west from Northland to Wellington, including Bay of Plenty and the central high country: Cloud increasing in western areas this morning, with evening drizzle about Kapiti and Wellington. Northwest gales in Wellington.

Gisborne, Hawkes Bay and Wairarapa, also Marlborough and Nelson: Fine and warm. Northwest gales developing south of Napier this morning.

Buller and northern Westland: Cloud increasing this morning and rain developing during the afternoon.

Southern Westland and Fiordland: Patchy drizzle, turning to rain this morning. Snow to 600 metres in Fiordland tonight.

Canterbury and Otago: Mainly fine and warm, but rain in the west this evening. Northwesterlies rising to severe gale in exposed places this morning.

Southland: A period of rain this afternoon, followed by showers. Severe northwesterly gales this morning, then westerly gales near the coast from afternoon.

Chatham Islands: Mainly fine. Northwesterly gales.

Thursday: North Island, a period of showers with a cool southwest change, then increasing fine spells. South Island, a few showers in the west and south, more frequent in the far south. Scattered showers in the east and north for a time, otherwise mainly fine.

Friday: North Island, mainly fine, evening cloud and a few showers in the northwest. South Island, cloudy periods in the west and south, with showers at times in the west, mainly fine elsewhere.

Saturday: Cloudy periods in the west, with isolated showers in the northwest of the North Island, and also the west of the South Island. Otherwise mainly fine.

Chatham Islands: Brief rain early Thursday, followed by a few showers and southerlies, possibly strong for a time. Showers clearing to fine spells during Friday with winds turning strong westerly. Fine spells on Saturday with westerlies rising to gale for a time.
