Whanganui to Wellington, also Wairarapa: Rain spreading south tonight, heavy for a time overnight. Clearing to fine spells tomorrow morning.

Nelson and Buller: Fine at first. Cloud increasing tomorrow, with rain after dark.

Westland and Fiordland: Cloudy periods and a few showers, turning to rain tomorrow with heavy falls and possible thunderstorms.

Marlborough to Mid-Canterbury: Fine.

South Canterbury to Southland: Fine at first. Cloud increasing tomorrow, with a few showers developing.

Chatham Islands: Fine at first. Periods of rain tomorrow.

South Island, rain at times in the south and west, some heavy and possibly thundery falls in the west at first. Morning rain in the north and east, then high cloud.

Saturday: North Island, occasional rain or showers for most places,clearing Gisborne later. South Island, showers in the west gradually clearing. Scattered showers in the east, with snow to low levels. Mainly fine in Nelson.

Sunday: North Island, scattered showers, clearing from Waikato to north Taranaki and across to Bay of Plenty. South Island, fine in the west. Scattered showers in the east, with snow possible to low levels.

Chatham Islands: Rain to showers early Friday. Fresh northerlies turning westerly. A period of rain on Saturday then showers. Northwesterlies changing southwest. Showers with westerlies on Sunday.
