A deep low is forecast to move southeast over the South Island tomorrow. SEVERE WEATHER WARNINGS AND WATCHES ARE IN FORCE.

Northland to Taranaki, including Coromandel Peninsula, Bay of Plenty and the central high country : Periods of rain, with some heavy falls and isolated downpours, clearing tomorrow. Easterlies rising to gale about Taranaki and the central high country this evening, easing tomorrow.

Gisborne to Wairarapa: Rain spreading from the north this evening and overnight, clearing tomorrow evening.

Whanganui to Wellington: Rain spreading south this evening and overnight, easing to a few showers tomorrow.

Nelson, Buller and Westland: Rain and severe gale easterlies developing overnight with heavy falls about Nelson. Wind and rain easing tomorrow afternoon.

Marlborough, Canterbury and Otago : Drizzle turning to rain tomorrow morning with snow above 500 metres in Canterbury and Otago. Rain clearing in Marlborough later in the day.

Southland and Fiordland: Mainly fine.

Chatham Island : Becoming fine tomorrow.

Wednesday: Rain or showers in most places, heavy falls in Taranaki,However, some fine breaks in the east from Coromandel Peninsula to Gisborne and down to Canterbury. Snow to 600 metres for a time in Otago, Southland and Fiordland.

Thursday: North Island, rain or showers in most places, clearing in the south later. South Island, rain or showers clearing, but still a few showers about northern ranges.

Friday: North Island, rain spreading to most places, but mostly dry in Hawkes Bay. South Island, rain or showers spreading to most places, snow lowering to 400 metres in Canterbury, Otago, Southland and Fiordland.

Chatham Islands: Rain developing early Wednesday and northeasterlies strengthening, lighter northwesterlies and a few showers later. On Thursday, rain or showers, and winds tending southwest. Occasional showers on Friday, and winds tending northerly again.
