For the North Island, excluding Taranaki, Horowhenua, Kapiti Coast and Wellington: Mainly fine. Some areas of fog or low cloud this morning.

Taranaki, Horowhenua, Kapiti Coast and Wellington: Cloudy periods. Isolated showers about the ranges.

Nelson and Western Marlborough: Cloud increasing this afternoon with a few light showers developing.

Canterbury and the remainder of Marlborough: Early fog patches then fine. High cloud increasing this evening.

Buller, Westland and Fiordland: Mostly cloudy with a few showers, turning to rain tonight or overnight in Westland and Fiordland.

Otago and Southland: High cloud and isolated showers.

Chatham Islands: Mostly cloudy, with a few showers this morning.

Friday: North Island, cloud increasing, with isolated showers or drizzle developing in the north and west. South Island, rain in the north and west with heavy falls, and a few spots of rain elsewhere. Clearing in Westland and Otago southwards later.

Saturday: North Island, rain developing everywhere, heavy falls possible north of Taupo. South Island, rain or showers for most except for Canterbury and Otago.

Sunday: North Island, rain or showers for most, clearing north of Taihape later, except the west coast. South Island, showers with snow possibly lowering to 500 metres, clearing from Otago southwards.

Chatham Islands: Mainly fine on Friday with strengthening northwesterlies. Cloud increasing with northwesterlies and a few showers developing on Saturday. Rain developing on Sunday with heavy falls possible, and strong or gale northwesterlies changing southerly later.
