Northland, Auckland, Coromandel and Bay of Plenty: Fine spells and a few showers, clearing from Bay of Plenty this afternoon.

Waikato to Manawatu, including the central high country: Occasional showers, some heavy at first, easing this evening.

Gisborne to Wairarapa, Kapiti, Wellington, Nelson and Marlborough: Mainly fine. Any remaining showers clearing this morning.

Canterbury: Fine.

Buller and Westland: Occasional showers, some heavy, gradually easing.

Otago, Southland and Fiordland: Showers, with snow flurries above 200 metres at first, clearing most places and becoming fine this morning but the odd shower lingering about the south coast.

Chatham Islands: Occasional showers. Strong west or northwest winds, possibly severe gale at first this morning.

Tuesday: North Island, a period of rain, with some heavy falls in the west, then a few showers in the west and dry in the east. South Island, mainly fine in the east with morning frosts, possibly severe, but morning rain for the Sounds and Golden Bay. Cloud increasing in the west, with rain or drizzle developing.

Wednesday: North Island, occasional showers in the west, and mainly fine in the east. South Island, periods of rain in the west, with heavy falls possible, and a few spots of rain in the east.

Thursday: North Island, rain for most places, with heavy falls and possible thunderstorms in the west. South Island, rain in the west, with heavy falls possible. A few showers in the east.

Chatham Islands: Occasional showers on Tuesday and Wednesday, and strong southwesterlies easing and turning northwesterly. Rain at times on Thursday with strong westerlies.
