For all the North Island, also Marlborough, Nelson and Buller: Fine, with a few cloudy periods in the west from Northland to Kapiti and also Buller. Westerly gales about exposed parts of the Tararua District today.

Canterbury, Otago and Southland: Fine, with high cloud at times. Northwest gales in exposed inland places.

Westland and Fiordland: Occasional rain or drizzle spreading north overnight then becoming confined to South Westland later this morning.

Chatham Islands: Mainly fine.
Extended Short Forecast for all New Zealand
Wednesday: North Island, mainly fine in the north and east, increasing cloudy periods elsewhere. Northwesterlies possibly rising to severe gale in exposed places in the south. South Island, gale or severe gale westerlies for many places. Rain spreading north in the west, with heavy falls, then easing from the south. Fine at first in the east, but showers spreading north. Thursday: North Island, a brief period of showers with a change to cooler temperatures. South Island, a few showers in the west and south, more frequent in the far south, but mainly fine in the north and east.

Friday: Isolated showers for Northland, and also for the far south, otherwise mainly fine.

Chatham Islands: Mainly fine on Wednesday with strengthening northwesterlies. Brief rain early Thursday, followed by a few showers and southerlies, then clearing and becoming fine during Friday with winds turning westerly.
