Police has identified the body of a man found on a river bank in Marlborough yesterday.
Tasman district commander Superintendent Richard Chambers said the man lived in Marlborough but would not release his name until next of kin had been notified.
He expected that to be later today, Chambers said.
A member of the public found the body on a river bank on the Wakamarina Valley near Canvastown, south of Havelock, about 5pm yesterday.
Chambers could not say where exactly the body had been found.Police were talking to people in the area to try and establish what might have occurred, he said.
Police were not treating the death as suspicious at this stage, he said.
An autopsy was being carried out, which would hopefully establish a likely cause of death and the circumstances around how he died, he said.
No further details were available at this stage.
