Man hurts back, head in quad bike accident

A 57-year-old Blenheim man was airlifted to Nelson Hospital today after he rolled his quad bike down steep terrain in the Awatere Valley.

The man was with friends on quad bikes inland of Seddon when he rolled, a Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter spokesperson said. 

His companions raised the alarm after a lengthy ride to a farm house. The Rescue helicopter was dispatched and located the scene approx 7km inland from the Awatere Valley.

The man was assessed and treated on scene by the rescue service's on- board intensive care paramedic and flown to Nelson Hospital Emergency Department with head and back injuries.
