Fears of flooding in Wakefield, near Nelson, last night did not eventuate, say police.
Residents were being prepared to move higher ground as their properties were threatened with flooding.
The state highway between Wakefield and Brightwater was reduced to one lane from 10pm because of surface flooding but the rain stopped and the water drained away, said Sergeant Mike Wardle.
Civil Defence had been on standby but no evacuations were needed. The highway is open today.
