Logging truck crash blocks Lewis Pass
Part of the Lewis Pass highway will be closed for more than six hours after a logging truck rolled near Springs Junction.
The crash happened about 6am today between Maruia Springs and Springs Junction on State Highway 7, near the Lewis Pass.
The driver received minor injuries, but the vehicle "lost its load" and logs had spread across the road, completely blocking the highway, police said.
No detours were available and the road was expected to be closed until 1.30pm.
The NZ Transport Agency said the spilled logs had been cleared by 10.30am, but the road would remain closed for a further three hours until the crashed logging truck had been recovered.
Traffic that had queued at the crash site had since been cleared, a spokeswoman said.
Motorists were advised to take alternative routes until the road reopened, such as State Highway 73 via Arthur's Pass.
