Police need help to find missing American
Police have had reported sightings of a missing American tourist on the West Coast but it is too early to say if he is safe.
Philip Gerald Mohseni, 24, from Portland, Oregon was believed to have gone tramping in the Copland Track area in Westland on June 22.
He was by himself and intended to stay about three days, Sergeant Sean Judd said. After this, he was possibly heading to the Haast area.
There had been some reports of sightings of Mohseni in West Coast backpacker hostels and on the Copland track.
"We are hoping it all points to a favourable outcome but at this stage we can't say for sure," Judd said.
A member of his family reported him missing as they had "not heard from him for some time", he said.
Anyone with any information as to his whereabouts is asked to contact the Greymouth Police on 03 768 1600.
