Two teenagers driving a stolen car lost control of it and crashed into the side of a commercial building in Nelson early this morning, Sergeant Matt Elliott says.
The teens ran from the scene but were caught with the help of police dogs after the accident in Parere St, off Vanguard St, just after midnight, he said.
The car went into the side of what appeared to be a commercial building, but there was minimal damage.
"Police apprehended two youths from a stolen vehicle that crashed into the building. They were found with dog trackers. One is to appear before the Youth Court and the other in the Nelson District Court," Elliott said.
Nelson Fire Service station officer Darren Shackleton said the building did not appear to be badly damaged after the car, a Nissan Bluebird, crashed into it.
"The roller doors seem to have taken the brunt."
Shackleton said no-one was in the car when emergency services arrived.
A tow truck removed the car soon after.
