Armed police have cordoned off Murphy St in Nelson's Victory area this afternoon, and surrounded a house.

The next door neighbours were told to leave at 2.20pm by the Armed Offenders Squad. The couple and their eight-week-old baby left but were not given a reason.

The man said he did not know his neighbour whom he described as in his 40s, who kept his curtains closed and kept to himself.

Six police vehicles were parked at the Jenner Rd end of Murphy St.
