A fire that started on the Centre of New Zealand is being investigated and anyone who saw people behaving suspiciously in the area is asked to call Nelson police.
Waimea Rural Fire Authority principal rural fire officer Ian Reade said fire investigators had narrowed it down to a certain area where the fire was believed to have started, but at this stage were unsure how it started.
Anyone who saw people in the area on Tuesday between 7pm and 8pm is asked to call police.
Just under one hectare was burnt in the fire, which was in an area of pine trees.
The fire was brought under control by 9pm. A helicopter with a monsoon bucket was used alongwith several volunteer ground crews.
