A Nelson skincare company has relaunched with a new online focus and the backing of a Kiwi songstress.

Natural skincare company His + Her Anti Ageing will launch an online shop in the next month, along with an advertising campaign featuring Tina Cross, part of Auckland-based vocal group The Ladykillers.

The Nelson shop opened in Hallenstein's Mall in 2009, but shut its doors last year after slow sales during the recession.

Now the company's products, which include natural cleansers, anti-ageing masks and sunblocks, are sold online and through salons and beauty spas.

Owner Melissa Richards said the move was a response to the buying habits of her customers, who had tended to favour online sales once they had chosen their favourite products.

She said she had originally planned to open franchises throughout the country, but the recession had affected sales as people cut back on non-essential purchases.

"I think it was just tough for everybody.

"I think everyone was finding it hard."

The company's website will soon be re-vamped to make purchases easier, and Mrs Richards has also employed a fulltime sales representative to travel the country promoting products.

Cross became the face of the brand after she met Mrs Richards at a ladies night held by rural supply store CRT.

She tried the products and decided she loved the brand and got on well with its owner, so offered to become an ambassador for the company.

"We see eye-to-eye and face-to-face," Cross said.

She had tried more well-known skincare products, but had not been satisfied, she said.

"While I was roped into the publicity around those products I was really aware that they were not entirely natural. It's something I have always been on the lookout for."

Mrs Richard said it was "an absolute privilege" to have Cross on board.

"Not only is she a fabulous ambassador, she's a well known gorgeous Kiwi woman.

"The fact that she's come back and said ‘This stuff is amazing' is pretty exciting for a small Nelson business."
