Pasquale Gargiulo grew tomatoes in the Wood for more than 20 years after he shifted to Nelson from Sorento, Italy 40 years ago.
His green houses in the wood are long gone and he has built a house where he used to tend the vines. Pasquale is semi-retired now and works part-time selling "the best icecream in New Zealand" from a cart on Trafalgar St.
The gelato is made at Buonissimo cafe in Richmond. His friends own the cafe.
"I help him and I get out of the house. He makes ice-cream and I sell ice-cream and talk."
Pasquale says it has always been a passion of his to work in an ice-cream business.
He had worked making ice-cream at Penguino Ice Cream Cafe before starting work at the cart. It is a job he loves, especially as he gets to meet and talk to so many ladies.
"The people that try the ice-cream they come back all the time."
