Opportunity knocks at festival
Relevant offers
More than 100 stalls will be exhibiting at this weekend's Festival of Opportunities.
Last year, about 2000 people attended the two-day event, and this year organisers are expecting that number to increase.
The festival is a chance for people to learn something new, listen to lectures, participate in workshops, have full or mini-sessions of healing, talk with health professionals and buy products, art and crafts.
The stall holders are from throughout New Zealand as well as Britain and Hawaii.
Lifestyle choices and remedies will include homeopathy, herbal remedies, vitamins and minerals, aromatherapy, meditation, yoga, crystals, massage, astrology, palmistry, tarot and natural cosmetics.
The festival will start on Saturday with gong and yoga teacher Maureen McKain leading a yoga class on Tahunanui Beach at 8am. She will then open the festival at Founders Heritage Park by playing the symphonic gong.
Each year, the event is well received by festivalgoers, says organiser Debby Verdonk.
Musicians this year will play world music and there will be a delicious selection of food on offer.
"The festival is a truly self-supporting event, with no funding or grants or ratepayers' money going into it. It is sustained by the enthusiasm of its loyal supporters."
The festival runs on Saturday and Sunday between 10am and 6pm at Founders Heritage Park, Nelson. Entry costs $10 per adult, or a gold coin donation for children. A weekend adult pass is $16 and a family day pass is $20. There is a discount for those who attend the Tahunanui yoga session.
