Nelson band, Recommended by your Mum has released a new five-track EP called Delayed Gratification.
The band, who secured a world-wide release deal with their previous album, Now We Are, are spending this year working on material for their as yet un-named next album.
Guitarist Josh Edmonds says: "Delayed Gratification" is a selection of song ideas that we've had for over 6 months and kind of represents a stepping stone from our old sound from the Now We Are album to the sound of our new album that we are currently working on.'
He expected the new album would be finished before the end of the year.
The single from Delayed Gratification is called Unstoppable. The band has been playing it live for the last nine months, including at many of the Rock Quest concerts in the South Island last year as feature guest band.
"It is a catchy song with a great anthemic chorus, and we thought it was time we released it as a single."
"Our live show has been a big focus for us lately. We are working on incorporating some really cool moments into the show including an automated lights and effects. The technology behind it all is insane, cutting edge stuff."
The band has also undergone a subtle name change, with the previous "Mom" becoming "Mum".
"To begin with our name was a bit of a joke, but now we are serious about our music, we want to reflect a more Kiwi spelling."
As part of NZ Music Month, Delayed Gratification is available as a free download (visit http://recommendedbyyourmom.com . After May, it will be available for purchase at iTunes.
