Rosanne Cash - The List

CD Reviews
Ms Cash offers up the first instalment of a list of 100 "essential American songs" her daddy Johnny drew up for her when she was a teenager.
Apart from a mildly rocking version of the Carter Family's Motherless Children, the arrangements are appropriately simple and effective, allowing her to really work with heartstring-pluckers like Take These Chains From My Heart, 500 Miles, Bury Me Under the Weeping Willow and especially Dylan's Girl From the North Country.
Dropping by to offer help and homage are Bruce Springsteen (a stroll through Sea of Heartbreak), Elvis Costello (an equally unhurried Heartaches By the Number), Jeff Tweedy (Long Black Veil) and Rufus Wainwright (Merle Haggard's Silver Wings).
Give this to anyone who says they hate country music, and let them know there's more to look forward to.
