The classic-rock influences come bursting through on this supergroup's debut.
Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones, Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme, and Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters, Nirvana), back on drums, have been knocking around together for four years or so, and the weight of expectation must have been great, but they deliver.
The sleazy opener No One Loves Me & Neither Do I raises a few concerns, but its raw, open, powerful sound is an indicator of what's to come.
New Fang, Elephants and Caligulove employ all-guns-blazing variations on the type of riffs you've heard Led Zep use a hundred times.
They try something a bit different with Bandoliers and Spinning In Daffodils, while Reptiles is a little bit oddball, and a swirling fairground organ and soaring guitar solo lift Warsaw or The First Breath You Take After You Give Up above the everyday. An invigorating blast of skilfully executed rock that shows the likes of Chickenfoot what being a supergroup is all about.
Best tracks: Dead End Friends, Bandoliers.
