The latest Dragon "best of" is very much a set of two halves – one of hits and other cuts from their heyday, and one of songs by the latest version of the band.
The first disc is essential; the other really isn't. Replacement frontman Mark Williams does well, but the new material lacks inspiration and grunt (though the funky Don't I Look Like Jim is OK), and nostalgia is the dominant theme, blended with country cliches in New Blue Moon and Kumera (sic) Dreaming.
The classic Dragon will always be the one with the late, lamented Marc Hunter and Paul Hewson – and the new model can't match that old louche brilliance, despite Todd Hunter's valiant efforts to keep the flame burning.
