Dub versions of Bob Marley's music (authorised and otherwise) have been available for yonks, though the results are variable - the legendary Bill Laswell, for example, buried classic songs under a pile of low-frequency sludge with Dreams of Freedom.
This new set is similar - the likes of Roots, Rock, Dub and Lively Up Your Dub are non-threatening remixes for those sad cases for whom Marley remains the alpha and omega of reggae, with stiff, shiny production and the vocals pushed too far forward in the mix, and bass no heavier than that on a standard reggae album.
Three Little Birds Dub discards the famous organ riff, and there's a lazy karaoke version of Jamming. But things start coming right with Is This Love Dub, and the versions of Forever Loving Jah, Crazy Baldhead, Waiting In Vain and One Love/People Get Ready are firmly locked into the bare-bones brilliance of the genre.
