Simon Manchester, an avid ceramics collector, will talk about his passion for Len Castle's pottery at the Suter Art Gallery this evening. Manchester has been a passionate collector of New Zealand studio ceramics since the 1980s.

He works as a consultant in the applied arts field and his experience and knowledge is extensive. Manchester has a collection of New Zealand studio ceramics by a number of different potters, but Len Castle's work is his most extensive range. Mr Manchester was first introduced to the work of Castle when he was encouraged to see Making the Molecules Dance at the Dowse Museum in 1994. He describes this experience as encountering an unknown world that somehow seemed complete in itself; a whole journey in expression through clay (and fire) that was riveting in the extreme. "Here was the work of one man over many years that was intensely captivating; enormous in its variety but somehow with a coherent and consistent voice that enchanted and challenged my ideas of what ceramic art could be."

  • Simon Manchester will share his knowledge of Len Castle's works at the Suter Art Gallery this evening at 6pm. Entry by gold coin.
