The exhibition at Art@203 is one with a difference. "Fused Glass is a blend of glass and metal transformed by fire," says gallery co-owner Bob Roderique.

Artist Lynn Price says this is glass art at its best.

Working in vignettes, Price has transformed her works into something that allows the viewer to enjoy the interaction between light, metal and glass.

Originally from Derbyshire in England, Price has been working with glass for more than 20 years.

She has worked in Tuscany, Italy and owned her own stained-glass business for many years.

"My fused glass work has grown out of a creative desire to produce more intimate and personal work. I'm never happier than when I am experimenting in my workshop. I believe that my experimental attitude towards my work keeps it fresh and exciting and keeps me developing as an artist."

Price uses sketches as a starting point for her ideas.

Prior to firing she cuts all the pieces of glass required for a piece and transfers it to the kiln.

"Without disturbing it is often a challenge, as a cough or a sneeze can destroy a whole day's work in a second."

She says she enjoys the naturally occurring "happy accidents" which are inevitable in any kiln-firing process.

"No matter how much I might try to contrive a piece, it is in the firing process, when the materials melt and oxidise, that the qualities are formed which make each finished artwork unique."

Price says she takes inspiration from nature, particularly water. She never tires of photographing and drawing the little details in nature which shape her work.

"I feel deeply attracted to the broad and varied features of our local landscape and am particularly drawn to the estuaries at the moment.

I feel extremely excited about future work to come."

Fused Glass by Lynn Price at Art@203 at 203 Trafalgar Stt until February 12.
