After running a successful weekend workshop in October, plywood furniture specialist Mike Hindmarsh is sharing his skills again by running a workshop February 2-3.

The Plywood Furniture Workshop will teach participants how to make a table and stool set from one of his own designs.

Hindmarsh says the response to his workshops has been "beyond my expectations" with the course already booked out.

However, anyone keen on checking out the action while students are working can come for a look.

The students will learn how to create stylish plywood furniture by laminating and constructing interlocking panels to create an attractive stool and table set.

"We will cover patternmaking, laminating plywood and router work - and you will leave with the skills to create other projects at home, utilising the versatility of plywood", Hindmarsh says.

Students get to take their table and stool away and there is discussion time on how to finish the ply surfaces.

"Everyone leaves satisfied with a completed piece, and they can finish the surfaces off at home," he says.

"One guy wants to laminate a world map on his table surface, so I learnt some new ideas as well".

Hindmarsh has another workshop planned for July 5 - 6, and is taking enrolments now.

"It's a great fun weekend, people come along and get to saw ply and use routers and it gives them a chance to experience furniture making," says John Shaw, Centre for Fine Woodworking director.

  • Plywood Furniture Workshop, July 5 - 6, 9-5pm. Centre for Fine Woodworking, 465 Wakapuaka Road, Wakapuaka, Nelson. $299 including materials. For more information, phone 03 545 2674 or email cfwoodwork@gmail.com.
