A new exhibition has just opened at the McKee Gallery which lends itself to those Christmas shopping for arty gifts. The Suter Art Society Cash and Carry show enables buyers to purchase and take away handy-sized works, none of which are over 50cm in width. Prices range from $60 to $600.

Society acting president Nick Duncan says 51 member artists have contributed 130 artworks, with 65 works on display at any one time. As works are bought and taken, they are replaced with new works from the stock room, creating an ever-changing exhibition.

"There is an eclectic mix of paintings from realistic to abstract and from serious to whimsical," says Duncan.

"The concept for the small works cash and carry exhibition is to provide suitable artworks for Christmas presents and for visitors over the holiday period to take the artworks home with them."

Society member Larisse Hall says a show like this means buyers need to be quick off the mark to secure works.

"It puts the pressure on because it means that if you leave the purchase of your favourite work till next week, it may have been snatched by somebody else by the time you return," she says.
