A lineup of creative parents from Hampden Street School are plying their wares for a good cause.

Artists and parents at the school have submitted work to its second annual art exhibition.

They include Nic Foster, John McMillan, Sally Barron, Alison Eades, Sarah Holman, Duncan Leask, Clare Makwana, Annie Leather and Louise Douglas.

Hampden Street School committee member Fiona Lulham said the school's gala was raising money for furniture being bought as part of classroom renovations.

Ms Lulham said last year's inaugural art exhibition was a big success, and the school was keen for it to become a regular part of the gala.

"The art exhibition [last year] raised about $3000. We sold about $15,000 worth of artwork," she said.

Other artists in this year's exhibition included former parents of the school, such as Kathryn Furniss, Tania Bostock and Marilyn Andrews.

Artworks included jewellery, photography, paintings and steel art.

Ms Lulham said a percentage of each sale would go to the school, so the 30 participating artists would benefit from the exhibition too.

"The gala itself features lots of fun for the kids, with water walkers, bouncy castles, an obstacle course, face painting, smash-a-plate, jolly bags and much more," she said.

  • The exhibition is open from 5pm to 8pm next Friday in the Hampden Street School hall with bubbly wine sponsored by Fresh Choice, and from 11am to 2pm the next day. Entry is $4 on the Friday and $2 the next day.
