Victory dairy hit by early morning robbery
Two men are due to appear in court this afternoon charged with the robbery of a Victory Square dairy this morning.
The pair, aged 19 and 20, have each been charged with two counts of aggravated robbery.
Police were called to the Victory Discounter dairy on Toi Toi St at 7.20am today, spokeswoman Barbara Dunn said.
‘‘Two men were found at a nearby address and are currently helping police with their inquiries,’’ Dunn said.
Police would not confirm if weapons were involved in the robbery, but said an amount of tobacco was taken.
The majority of the cash and tobacco stolen in the robbery has since been recovered.
Police had cordoned off an area of the neighbourhood as they searched for the robbers.
Sunny Singh Bal opened the Victory Discounter Dairy in a former produce shop late last year.
He said earlier the store had been a target for tobacco thieves, and had needed to bolster security to try and prevent repeat problems.
He could not be reached for comment today.
