Police investigating a fire at the Rising Sun Hotel are seeking help from the public to identify a man seen on CCTV nearby.

Police and Fire Service investigators believe the fire early on Monday, April 14, was lit delib erately and are appealing to anyone who recognises the man to come forward as he may be able to assist with the investigation.

The fire was started about 2am that day at the rear of the pub in Waimea Rd. The building has been the focus of suspicious activity, including in last October when police and fire investigators were looking into alleged arson attempts at the hotel and at the Bush Inn in Grove St.

Anyone with information should contact Detective Sergeant Mark Kaveney or Detective Neil Kitchen at Nelson police, phone 546 3840, or anonymously call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
