The search is now on for the region's best businesses.

The 2014 Westpac Nelson Tasman Chamber of Commerce Business Awards were launched in Nelson last night, to begin the search for entries.

The event was for those considering and interested in finding out about how to enter the business awards. Previous winners talked about what was involved and the benefits of entering.

Chamber of commerce chief executive Dot Kettle was delighted with the level of interest shown in the awards from those who turned out last night.

"There was great enthusiasm and it was exciting to see the numbers that showed an interest."

Kettle said there were about 45 people at last evening's launch when she would have expected closer to 30. "There was strong support from last year's winners who talked about what was involved and the huge benefits from winning."

Glenn Roberts Electrical took home last year's supreme award announced at a gala awards evening late last year.

The firm also won the Medium Business Award.
