A 21-year-old Richmond man critically injured in a motorcycle crash last month has died.
Nelson police confirmed today that Thomas Davidsen died in Wellington Hospital last Wednesday following a motorcycle crash on SH6 at Collins Valley on April 27.
A serious crash investigation is under way.
Davidsen was airlifted to Nelson Hospital by the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter with chest and arm injuries about 2pm on the day of the accident. He was later transferred to Wellington Hospital.
St John Ambulance shift manager Mike Casey said at the time emergency services arrived at the scene in the Whangamoas to find that Davidsen had gone over a bank.
Casey said that, as a motorcyclist himself, there were a number of possibilities.
It was a winding road, which would be attractive to any motorcyclist, he said.
‘‘But any time a motorcyclist comes to grief on an open road, there is huge potential for significant injury,’’ he said.
Davidsen's family declined to comment. He was to be farewelled today at Waimea Estates in Appleby where he worked.
