The wider Nelson region can build on its horticulture industry while the city has the potential to develop its niche food, marine construction and aviation sectors, a report released by Economic Development Minister Steven Joyce says.
Joyce released the 2014 Regional Economic Activity Report yesterday, and said it showed the way the Nelson city and Tasman district economies were linked.
Describing Nelson and Tasman as separate regions, he said they were interlinked and that the report highlighted the chance for them to add value to primary products and "for local firms to work together to export and grow".
The report showed "both regions" had the potential to increase exports from aquaculture, one of the fastest-growing parts of the international food industry, Joyce said.
