Kath Bee in running for Video of the YearANNA BRADLEY-SMITH
Laser-eyed dragons and plasticine people have been brought to life in the nationally acclaimed music video for Dragons Under my Bed by Nelson children's singer-songwriter Kath Bee.
The music video created by final year arts and media student Aimee Herd has been selected as one of three finalists in the Children's Music Video of the Year awards.
Bee said she approached Herd about the video after seeing a stop-motion made by Herd's son Cooper,9.
"I thought his stop-motion was great and wanted to see if he'd help.
"Cooper loved the song and started straight away.
"It became clear pretty quickly that it was going to be a massive job and Aimee was able to take it on as one of her assignments," she said.
Herd said she spent hours on the video and was helped by her children.
"Cooper especially helped by designing all of the dragons."
She said she was humbled by how the video has been received as it was only her second animation.
The annual competition is organised by the Australasian Performing Right Association Limited (APRA) and the What Now television show and it celebrates artists who have made music videos for New Zealand children.
After being selected by judges Herd's video is being put to the real critics - children and parents all over the country.
What Now has the three videos on its website so people can watch them and vote before voting closes on July 19.
- Kath Bee will perform at the Playhouse Cafe and Theatre on Sunday July 13 at 3pm.
