Matariki will be celebrated in Motueka tonight with a degustation dinner for 100 people at Te Awhina marae.
The $100-a-head dinner will be catered by Matt Bouterey and sponsored by Kono, the food and beverage arm of Wakatu Incorporation, as well as some other local firms.
The evening will also feature an art auction, with the whole event a fundraiser for the marae's redevelopment plan.
Te Awhina trustee Ropata Taylor, who is also Wakatu's general manager for people and culture, said the marae was grateful that Kona had "come to the party" and was also grateful to the artists who had donated work for the auction. A similar event last year had raised $27,000 for the marae.
As well as raising funds, the sold-out event was a way for people in Motueka to celebrate Matariki, the Maori New Year, Taylor said.
Matariki was becoming more prominent nationally.
Although there were several Matariki-related events in urban centres, this event brought the opportunity to celebrate to Motueka, he said.
