A thief will be enjoying prime lamb rump and some beer to wash it down after breaking into the chiller at Mint Dining Room restaurant in central Nelson last night.
Chef and owner Grant Dicker said thieves used a screwdriver to jemmy open the door of the chiller, which is housed outside the restaurant.
He reckons that because it wasn't cleaned out entirely, the thief or thieves were possibly "spooked" by a staff member. Dicker said it happened about midnight. The chiller had been there about 18 months without a problem, he said.
Because it was winter there was not a lot stored in the chiller, but he reckoned goods worth about $300 to $400 went missing.
